Television bezels are mostly made of metal (such as aluminum alloy), high-gloss plastic, or glass. Their surfaces often undergo fine processing such as anodizing and spraying, making them fragile and easily damaged. Therefore, protective films need to meet multi-dimensional performance requirements, with the core focus on balancing "strong protection" and "clean peeling." Specifically, they can be categorized as follows:
1. Core Adhesion and Peel Performance This is the most fundamental core requirement. The protective film must possess suitable initial tack and holding power to ensure it does not easily peel off or detach under complex environments such as production assembly, transportation vibration, and temperature changes, and can stably adhere to the frame surface. Simultaneously, the adhesion must be precisely controlled, and peeling must be clean and efficient, without any residue or adhesive transfer, to avoid contaminating or damaging the delicate frame surface. Adhesion matching is typically achieved by selecting specific acrylic adhesives and adjusting the formulation. For different frame surfaces, adhesion can be categorized as low-tack (suitable for smooth surfaces such as high-gloss plastics and glass), medium-tack (suitable for most anodized metals and frosted surfaces), and high-tack (suitable for surfaces with low surface energy or slightly uneven texture). 2. Comprehensive Protective Performance The protective film must form a reliable physical barrier to resist various risks of damage: First, scratch resistance; the film itself must possess a certain degree of hardness and toughness to resist scratches from daily operation, friction, and minor impacts. High-end products will also undergo a hardening treatment of the substrate to enhance the level of protection. Second, impact resistance and cushioning; especially for fragile materials such as glass frames, it must be able to disperse external impact forces and reduce the risk of breakage. Third, stain and chemical resistance; it must effectively block the adhesion of fingerprints, sweat, and dust, while resisting the minor corrosion of common cleaning agents or solvents, preventing contaminants from penetrating into the frame itself. In addition, protective films used in manufacturing processes must also possess high-temperature resistance to withstand the heat effects of SMT processes. 3. Optical and Processing Adaptability For scenarios requiring visual inspection through the protective film, or where the bezel incorporates some display functionality, the protective film must possess high transparency (transmittance typically ≥94%) and low haze to ensure unobstructed observation of the bezel's color, texture, and defects. It must also have good processing adaptability, facilitating die-cutting and punching to precisely match bezels of different shapes and sizes. Cut edges must be smooth, neat, and burr-free to prevent problems during application. 4. Environmental Stability and Ease of Use Regarding environmental stability, the protective film must maintain stable performance within a certain temperature and humidity range. It should not decompose or overflow under high temperature and humidity conditions, nor become brittle or crack under low temperature conditions. Durability must match the expected protection period. For ease of use, it must have good bubble removal properties (or a built-in air-guiding channel design) for quick and easy application. Peeling should be smooth and with even pressure, enhancing the user experience. Additionally, the protective film must be free of perforations, scratches, stains, and other defects, meeting cleanliness standards. II. Commonly Used Protective Film Widths The width of the protective film is mainly determined by the TV size, bezel structure, and application scenario (production process/transportation protection). Larger screens typically require wider protective films to ensure adequate coverage and stable adhesion. Standardized common sizes and customized sizes exist, as detailed below: 1. Standardized Common Widths Choosing the right specifications and color ensures both effective protection and aesthetics. Looking at mainstream products on the market, the specifications of TV bezel protective films are quite flexible: In terms of width, common sizes include 2.5cm, 3cm, 3.8cm, and 4.8cm, precisely fitting the bezel widths of different TV sizes. Lengths are mainly in large rolls, with 200-meter ultra-long rolls being very common, offering excellent cost-effectiveness and meeting manufacturers' bulk protection needs. Regarding thickness, mainstream products range from 0.03mm to 0.08mm. In addition, some general-purpose protective films are available in wider roll sizes, such as 1250mm, for manufacturers to further die-cut according to requirements; there are also centimeter-level widths such as 2.5cm, 3.8cm, and 4.8cm, suitable for specific bezel protection needs. 2. Customized Widths For special bezel structures (such as irregularly shaped bezels or bezels with function key mounting blocks), customized widths are available. For example, for a high-gloss PS+ABS LCD TV panel, the bottom bezel protective film width is customized to 12mm, while the top and left/right bezels are 7mm. Bezel-less TV-specific protective films can be precisely customized in width according to the model, with common customization ranges covering 1mm-6mm and above. Roll lengths are mostly 10m or 20m/roll, suitable for mass production needs. III. Common Protective Film Colors Protective film color selection needs to balance protective functionality and visual compatibility (not affecting the appearance of the bezel and matching the decoration style). Transparency is the core color, supplemented by a small number of functional or decorative colors, as detailed below: 1. Mainstream Core Color: Transparent Transparent is the most common color for TV bezel protective films, suitable for almost all application scenarios. Its advantage lies in not obscuring the original bezel color, facilitating the observation of bezel appearance defects during production, and not affecting the overall visual effect of the TV. It is almost invisible after application, making it the preferred color for production processes, transportation protection, and consumer self-application. Transparent protective films must ensure high light transmittance to avoid affecting bezel quality inspection and appearance due to color or transparency issues. 2. Functional/Decorative Colors Blue: A versatile color that can match various product styles. Some brands also offer blue options for custom bezel protective films. Green: Mostly functional colors, such as white and green dual-color protective films, where the green portion provides visual concealment, suitable for specific bezel color matching needs. Other custom colors: A few high-end custom models will have screen protectors that match the exclusive colors of the frame, such as beige or brown, to better fit the overall design style. However, these colors are relatively rare and are mostly exclusive to the brand.
